The Hamilton boys cross country team ended their season with an exciting chance to bring their varsity team to state. The 7 boys being Max VanHuis, Tyler Gugino, Abatu Dykstra, Brody Crandall, Josh Langeland, Evan Kraker, and Ethan Sheedlo. On Saturday, November 6, the boys and a bus filled with supporters traveled to the Michigan International Speedway for their race.
When we talked to the boys they said that they loved getting the chance to further their season with their team. They all loved getting to know their teammates throughout the course of the season and getting to work together to improve. The boys ran great times at the meet with the top three being: Max running the fastest time with a 16:37.3, one of his fastest times of his season. Finishing second for Hamilton was Abatu running a 17:04.8. Coming in third for Hamilton was Evan running an 18:08.47. The boys were able to get two places better than predicted when they headed into the meet. All the runners will be returning next year except one. Tyler Gugino was the only senior boy on the team this year and he made a huge contribution to the team on state day running his best time of the season, an 18:56.8. Tyler worked hard all season to run fast and help the team succeed. He made sure that he ran with a purpose and cut time at almost every meet this season. Max was able to obtain the academic all state award meaning he finished the season with at least a 3.5 GPA and finished the state meet in the top half of runners. Amazing job to all the boys that ran at state and it is my hope that you will make it to state in the coming years as well. The boys will return next year looking to improve on this year's times.
