The Hamilton Girl's Varsity Basketball team was defeated by the Lakers of Spring Lake on January 25, 2022. The girls ended the game with a score of 45-32 with a tough loss. The leading scorer of the girl's game was Kaitlyn Geurink with a whopping total of 16 points on Tuesday night. Five out of her 16 points were made by free throws. This loss puts the girl's record at 6-6 after the defeat by the Lakers of Spring Lake.

Hamilton started 3 seniors, 1 junior, and a freshman. Brielle Groenheide (Sr.), Megan Williams (Sr.), Raya VanderZwaag (Sr.), Jessica Berens (Jr.), and Kaitlyn Geurink (Fr.).

The leading scorer was freshman Kaitlyn Geurink, she had a total of 16 points. Kaitlyn had 8 points in 2’s and a single 3 pointer. She got way more free throws than most get, giving her 10 free throws. She made 5 of the 10 free throws. Coming in behind her as the second top scorer was senior Megan Williams. Megan scored 10 points. Our leading 3 shooter was also Megan coming up with 3 3’s.

When the girls got to the end of the first quarter the score was 8-6 with the girls up at the time. After the Lakers came back, the score was 23-20 with our girls team working on fighting to ahead. The end of the 3rd quarter came and the score was 37-25 with the Lakers still ahead. After the buzzer the score was 45-32. The Lakers of Spring Lake had won the game and our newly updated record was bumped from 6-5 to 6-6.

Since the girls are at the middle of their season, they will continue to improve throughout the rest of the season of 2022. The girls team works hard everyday in practice and their work is going to proceed to show in future games. This past and present year has been difficult but these girls are definitely able to get together and play as a team and become a unified family.
